The holiday starts with you exploring the city of Colombo. Leisurely drive to some fine restaurants offering exotic cuisine. Thereafter on day two, discover the Rock fortress of Sigiriya, one of the world heritage sites. Kandy was once a royal Kingdom and, the seat of Lord Mount Butters South East Asia command, now converted to the Royal Botanical gardens at Peradeniya. Driving beyond you will be invited to taste some of the finest tea of the world... "Ceylon Tea" straight from the tea gardens on the misty hills. Day 1 - Airport / Colombo


Welcome to Sri Lanka on the famous silk route to the Paradise isle. Abans Tours Representative will meet you on arrival and transfer you to the Europcar Centre, where your vehicle awaits. If you wish to collect the vehicle later that day, we'll make arrangements to deliver the vehicle to your hotel. Depending on the time of arrival, you will embark on your first driving experience in this exotic island with a tour of the city of Colombo, driving pass the Galle face Green with a panoramic view of the setting sun, the Old Parliament, the Gangaramaya Temple, the Independence Square to mention but a few of the interesting sites. Indulge in some fine dining at the many speciality restaurants that dot the city.

Day 2 - Colombo / Sigiriya

The discovery tour begins with a drive towards the north central province across a varied vegetation. After enjoying a traditional lunch at a local Village Rest House visit the historic and enchanting site with many tales to its majesty. A unique site recognised by UNESCO, Sigiriya marvelled by many a visitor as to if it is perhaps the "Eight wonder of the world!". A natural granite rock fortress rising 20 meters high carved in the wilds of North Central Sri Lanka from which a kingdom arose and ruled for a period of time in 6th Century BC. Half hours climb to the top of the rock through the natural Royal lawns and ponds to experience an extraordinary 360 degree view of its surroundings. A top the rock one gets an innate feeling of the supremacy that the king once had.

Evening relax by the poolside watching birds and monkeys that add to natures beauty.

Day 3 - Sigiriya / Dambulla / Kandy

Drive to Dambulla and be amazed at a selection of five rock temples carved into a rock by different Kings who had sort refuge dating from the 5th to 12th century BC.

After lunch drive to Kandy passing through a tapestry of country life filled with nature's gifts. Visits to temples and spice gardens enroute is part of the excitement. Arrive in Kandy late evening.

Day 4 - Kandy

During the morning drive to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. This 147 acre exotic garden, which was once the South Asia command of Lord Mount Batton during "world war II" now count more than 4000 species of plant with a fascinating collection of tropical and sub-tropical flora including a collection of rare orchids.

Thereafter drive to the handicraft centre and there after towards upper lake for a panoramic view of the garden city.

In the evening visit the "Sri Dalada Maligawa" the temple of the Tooth relic of Lord Buddha and assist in the Temple ceremony. Before witnessing a Kandyan cultural dance performance featuring colourful costumes and a fire limbo show

Day 5 - Kandy / Hatton

After Breakfast escape in to the cool misty hills with a spectacular driving experience negotiating "hair-pin bends" and along carpets of tea and cascading waterfalls. The aroma of fresh tea being brewed in the many tea factories combined by the freshness of un-polluted air with a hint of pine fragrance will truly tempt your senses. On arriving at Hatton you will drive through tea plantations to an exclusive tea plantation bungalow, the lap of luxury of the British Tea Plantation Managers.

Day 6 - Hatton

Later in the morning take a trek through the tea bushes with a resident planter and visit a tea estate and a tea factory where you will be enlightened in the entire process of tea manufacture. If you are in for adventure, take mountain climbing tour to Adams Peak. Later that day relax enjoying a cuppa!

Day 7 - Hatton / Colombo

After taking in the morning breeze of the tea country drive downhill to Colombo being surrounded by the "hills that keep coming a live" so as to be inviting one to partake of its natural beauty and serenity. Dropping by at Kitulgala Rest House for that cuppa, will enlighten one to the location of the filming of the "Bridge over River Kwai".

Arrive late evening to Colombo where it all begun and unwind while putting together your personal picture book on Sri Lanka.

Day 8 - Colombo / Airport

After Breakfast you will be transferred to your flight back Home. Handing back your vehicle will be done at the Europcar Centre at the Colombo International Airport or at your convenience at the hotel.

Driving License requirements

Drivers must have held a license 2 years, and have an International Drivers Permit (which needs local approval either in advance or in-person) or have a temporary Sri Lankan driving approval.

  • HOLDING IDP & PRE-APPROVING: Provide scan of IDP and passport of the driver e-mailed to Europcar Sri Lanka in advance on (please allow at least 2-3 working days). Retrieve approval document at Europcar Centre. Cost LKR 4000 (US$30)
  • HOLDING IDP & APPROVING IN SRI LANKA: Must go in person to the Automobile Association for approval. Mon-Fri, non-public holidays only. Up to full-day trip. Europcar staff accompanies. Cost 4500 LKR (~35USD)
